The goal is to reach consensus on an integration strategy that promotes sustainable development in the region and share the benefits among members through active participation of governments, international financial institutions and the private sector. For Peru to participate in this forum has the advantage of being the only member of the Andean Community in APEC. On the other hand, from the geographical point of view, Peru is well-positioned to become the bridge (HUB) trade flows between Asia and South America. APEC is also a platform to promote international economic relations agreements with this region in order to get our country to become a strategic partner in Asia and Oceania Latin America. APEC offers the possibility for non-members to participate in the activities of its Working Groups as a guest. Colombia has participated in several meetings of the Energy Working Group (since 1996), Telecommunications and Technology (since 1997) and Trade Promotion (since 2000).
