Prostitution As a Social Phenomenon
Society and regulates everything that is important foundations in moral values, like the law. We refer to equality, freedom, justice, respect, finally, individual rights, by law and conduct, must be granted to each member of the existing social group besides being guaranteed and protected by the system itself. All these moral values are used in social groups where the human being spends most of his time: family and work. Work is where the human being focuses its objective side, much more the feelings and mind paying more attention to values such as responsibility, honesty and respect for the rules and system. It is the aspect that can be covered by more legal guidelines, a comparison of the family. A person who meets these guidelines, is considered a full and honest person, because the work is to develop your skills to the maximum support to bring to your home and yourself. If properly performed, is the noblest acts of man ... almost always. Prostitution refers to the sale of sexual services in exchange for money or some kind of compensation established in advance.
It includes men and women, both in people who exercise as in the pay. There are three base types of prostitution: given against the will of the individual, which is forced by economic and cultural conditions of the person and that is by choice simply because of the high income it produces. The position of governments of different countries towards this work, also considered a social phenomenon, ranging from those that have completely banned in its legal system, through which they see as a defect of society, those who understand that it is work to end, even those who have legalized profession. Taking into account that is considered the world's oldest profession, it is clear the inability of humans to accept something just out of habit, if not according to their thinking and their ideologies. Since before biblical times, there are records of prostitution practices, which at that time was much more to women because they were forced into this, especially in Eastern countries. In Greece, in Athens, there are records of brothels from VI BC still
and in Rome and Mesoamerica also practiced. In ancient times, women who exercised the profession was much worse view today. They were always very low-income women and, generally, the company hired were men, since the services were not accessible, as well as man's reputation was at stake, and the nobles had not written certain rights to seek this type of service. Although he was punished socially, legally there were no laws prohibiting the profession altogether, until in the middle ages were a result of the Reformation and the discovery of sexually transmitted diseases. Weber mentioned in the method of interpretive sociology that by "hermeneutic understanding? You can define certain patterns and provide an explanation for social phenomena latent in history. With this concept, refers to the relationship between history, customs, and the reality we live. What makes the story according to this social reality is that the socioeconomic status somehow determines the social type that takes part of this profession. As a worker involved is the cause of low socioeconomic status, since there is the need for personal and family support, and is a highly paid job, but conditions are not ideal.
As a client, social status is generally very high, since the service contract is not accessible financially and for sexual pleasure luxuries whenever they want, should not have many other needs where to invest your money. The cause of the person involved would be objective, since it is done on impulse from a basic need. Instead, the client is mostly due to subjective, since it primarily involve feelings and instinct, leaving out the bias of the mind and being guided by something immaterial. For each social actor has a different role in this phenomenon, also distinguished by its engine to act. Weber argues that all in sociology largely guided by subjective standards, although its form of study has been focusing on the objective. In this case, prostitution is not much to do with the subjective case of people living on it, referring to the exercise of the management profession, as they do trying to satisfy a passion or sentiment, but by the basic human needs that are not even made the man but natural events. On both sides, ideally, there is consent, but being different causes the phenomenon itself can not encompass in a single, to be two roles that are played around the same conflict.
At present, it is home to many social and legal issues when talking about prostitution. It is still frowned upon in the society for most groups, especially those with high social status and are not requirements of the degree of those in a lower status. In any case, involving the situation, prostitution is prohibited by law and it also prevents people who live it can exercise safely. There is no law that protects them from certain circumstances that arise as a result of this, talking about diseases, pregnancy or even violence and how they are treated. This phenomenon is not going to stop, since it takes centuries happening in every society, not much has changed. It's a job, because he needs money and is well paid most of the time, so there is no real reason to stop there. The fact that so vetoed socially is based on nothing less than moral and religious values only, not really justify laws that the illegality of the conflict. My ideal type would be the legalization of prostitution, as well as both social actors would be more protected, and society also, what are diseases, abortions, violence and many other events that leads to the fact.
Even the view of society would change, because once the rule is imposed by an authority higher than the capacity of the masses, it is gradually included in the daily life and would not have much social discrimination as to those involved, giving more guarantees and rights against persons and legal recognition before the law. The ideal type that wont also includes that prostitution is practiced as a profession, because that is the definition of what it covers, and not give cases like human trafficking or child prostitution, as this directly and strongly if careful the dignity of the individual and the functioning of society. Taking a value as a researcher on this subject is somewhat difficult because of the subjectivity of the fact. The fact in itself goes against social morals with which individuals grow the company, but seeing very cold, is something that exists with or without financial remuneration, and is often promoted only on the sensations and the pleasure, not a family. In labor aspect, there is something that is offered and there is demand, so it can be.
On the social side is very different, because it applies the discrimination and fear of something we do not know and is not part of our daily lives. It's something that certainly does not affect third parties and not against human dignity if the right conditions, and those involved are fully aware of what is happening and still decide to be part of it. It does not affect the freedom of other members of society and be part of life without damaging it beyond. It's a matter of respect and social equity, to recognize that is a job and the increasingly rare opportunities bordering the individual to seek, in whatever form, survive in a world based on the economy. Not having a moral about it, much less engage religious values, but the social values and apply the basic rules for living in harmony such as solidarity, respect and human dignity. The point of studying a case under rational actions is the fact that the individual is before the society, ie, understanding the individual, we can understand more social conflict arises.
A rational action at the end refers to the act that is aimed directly at the person's individuality, ie looking for the ultimate in convenience and own wishes, without regard to consequences for others and directs all his actions to achieve their particular purpose. An example in the case of prostitution would be the social role the client plays here, as the pay for the service is not based on anything but the desire and passion of the individual aspect, which Weber regarded as subjective motor the action. The customer pays for convenience and not because they really have to. He takes a decision based on how you feel, period, not seeking to benefit or harm anyone but himself. Also in this field are also the reasons for people living in this, as your engine is based on something that they decide in full consciousness and will, if it is a human need, is a choice. I am referring to people taking prostitution as a profession, not the prostitution case against the individual will, that there is a very different and far reaching affect the social nucleus, much more than the act itself. They are also rational actions in accordance with values, which are moved by the belief of the individual and the formation of this connection to morality and religion, and ethics.
This has nothing to do with legal, although many of the laws are promoted on this principle. An example of the shares under securities would be the case of discrimination in society towards prostitution practitioners. Although the term discrimination is something that generally relate to being against solidarity as individuals, the raw basis of this conflict are in the society's religious beliefs and moral values mainly that's what I have been following all his life . Also, this is part of social custom in the core, since you can not require the individual who is not part of the problem to change an ideology that has been part of it for years. The change can be given, but it takes generations. The society in which we live is not for radical changes, so when searching, if you alter the social order and peace and we are in conflict. Rational actions are substantive, which are those involving values but as a means to achieve the intended purpose from the beginning. In this regard, it is difficult to define social actors who are directly involved with the event, I would rather associations fighting for the rights of people involved in prostitution and defending the dignity of these arguments through the individual rights are what they should do about the issue.
Finally, there are formal rational actions. These relate to much more accurate procedures and stricter guidelines than those who are socially. Here involve legislation with respect to this social conflict. If the law is approved or not and the consequences it brings to society and stakeholders, in itself, the reasons why the decision was made to apply the law chosen. The parameters are much tighter and there is less room for subjectivity in the other three. Each action includes an aspect that has to do with prostitution, the characteristics and peculiarities of each, as well as the study approach and involving historical basis. Social action with respect to the fact concerning the reasons why an individual acts in a given way, and how this impacts on culture and society itself, as well as the status and habits. The rational action at the end refers to the raw reason of the fact. In the case of prostitution, each actor has a different one: the client would be the sexual relationship and the person offering the service would be purely monetary.
This aspect does not include justifications or explanations beyond what is the purpose, leaving aside the internal workings of social conflict. The rational action is the values that focuses on the individual's feelings and motives that have to do with them. Studying this, would be merely the pleasure you get the client or the need for the person involved in the work to make a living, simply because they feel complete and well the individual, not just because of being a fad. While the latter is less subjective, because there is something external which affects mostly just moves the feelings and the passion of being, resolve a situation that has you restless and meet your basic requirements for living in harmony with yourself and society around you. Similarly, the values will be different for an outsider and a person involved. Those involved in actually have arguments to justify their actions as well as external to justify their thinking. Affective social action focuses less passionate feelings and do not involve what is right and what is wrong.
All that matters is the feelings of all beings involved in the conflict and how they act on the matter. The latter, which is the traditional social action is the basis of social systems we have today. It is guided by the history and customs that human beings have members of a social group. In the case of prostitution, we could consider various aspects such as the fact that it is something not socially accepted by the ideologies of people, or the fact that a person will continue to work on this without further need to, since it is already part of your routine and make you feel good and in a "comfortable? with the basics, seeks nothing beyond. There are three types of authorities are involved in social facts according to the theory of interpretive sociology of Weber. They are rational, traditional and charismatic. Rational authority has to do directly with the law because it is the most objective as possible in terms of social norms. Here comes again the dilemma of why or why this profession is not accepted as lawful in relation to society, but be as a result, the final authority is rational because there is no option.
We live under a system established centuries ago and that is how we will live through time. Our ideology is based on that and not something to be modified because we are not prepared to challenge authority, and less if it's something that affects us directly. We are individualistic beings par excellence, and although different sociologists study it for ourselves is always the person first and then the society. Traditional authority is the power of influence of society on a certain event or conflict, according to the historical background and behavior patterns that follow. In prostitution, this is a topic that covers a lot of space and it's really important because there will always be an outside opinion about this and affect people who are within the fact. This is what I described as discrimination. Could change, but there will always be some influence of society in general towards the development of the conflict, and a reciprocal basis. Charismatic authority refers to the religious authorities or leaders who have names and words in front of a social group. These are factors that greatly influence in society and their way of thinking about this conflict.
For example, if religion say that prostitution is an accepted way of life, many people change their minds about this phenomenon because it is simply something that people trust blindly, and makes feasible the process of social change. Durkheim spoke of how society directly influenced the division of labor. He said that the smaller members of society was a more noticeable would be the division of labor and would slow the progress of the changes in it (mechanical solidarity). In contrast, when a society is composed of many members, divisions of labor are much more specific just to be able to carry out, and this society is in a much faster pace of change and progress, although this does not mean that is a simpler process (organic solidarity). In the case of prostitution, the profession is exercised in proportion to the number of members of society. That is, in a rural society will find fewer people participate in fact, playing any role, to the city, where it is most likely that the dynamic density of the profession is much higher.
Contrast, is more noticeable in rural societies since there is much less populated and urban areas is not seen as thoroughly by the density so great that is. Despite these issues, the manner in which the general public appreciates prostitution is the same: an ideology that not over the centuries has accepted the social phenomenon as something that is part of daily life and still seeing it as social taboo and against everything established. Prostitution is a profession, also considered a social phenomenon of great importance due to the impact on the ideology and functioning of the roles of persons belonging to the group to which it refers. External impact (society) into the (phenomenon) and vice versa. Greatly affects the social structure, since it has implications also what is violence, divorce, family, human dignity ... is a theme that suggests much debate but has never been open mind so that we can see that this is a real situation. It is part of our present and something that will be part of our future, but something we should not forget is that people who participate in this fact are also members of our society, with whom we share some ideas and goals, and above all and before However, in the ideal of society is solidarity.
We are human beings and perfection is not something that occurs in our lives, but if acceptance and understanding contexts that do not concern us directly. Despite all this, society will continue to have trouble accepting that there are situations such as prostitution, because it is something that goes against the status quo that manages the human being in its development, and as I said before, society is not this fact to accept the change quickly, but quite the opposite.
