The many benefits of team building activities


Very few managers and almost no employees involved in management would not agree with the statement that the team building exercises performed on a periodic basis is important to help keep employees on track and work together toward a common goal. However, there may be some who still do not understand why these events are important. This article attempts to explain the many benefits of team building activities.

Icebreaker and introductions are a group of exercises and games designed to help members of a group know each other better and learn from each others strengths and weaknesses. These activities are simple enough to plan and execute and can be critical to the performance of the group.

Confidence building is an absolute must-have benefit of these activities. If team members do not feel they can trust each other team member with their ideas, their work and their skills, they will put forth their best effort for the good of society or the team. Instead, they will try to work alone, independently of the others, which would result in a high likelihood of duplication of work done by more people unnecessarily.

Understanding cultural differences and putting them aside when you work in a multicultural team can be difficult for some. However, there are some exercises designed specifically for this purpose. In some cases, one or more group members can view a certain amount of prejudice towards others, whether that means they are not. Putting together a cross-cultural exercise can help these individuals recognize their prejudice and its source so they can work around it for the good of the group.

Employee morale is one of the major factors that contribute to decreased productivity.
