Ciego de? Vila. Their Boulevard: A jewel of Cuban Modern Architecture
Impressive for its beauty, exquisite architecture and artistic taste, the boulevard of the Cuban city of Ciego de? Vila, has become the preferred site local and foreign visitors, is part of a Draft Urban Resuscitation and cultural spaces of services. Ciego de? Vila is a modern city, but in the historical highlights many features of colonial architecture typical of such regions. The name, which meant the herd first and then the estate, it refers to the late sixteenth century, more precisely to 1577, when the layout of that herd. The modern port opened in December 2008, is located along the shopping street "Independence" and designed with modern style elements, metal, combined with the historical center environment and mindful of the existing heritage values, characterized by an eclectic architecture. It also hosts important cultural events in the region as the International Book Fair. The site also includes, among other facilities, a nightclub, restaurants, cafes light food, video games room, workshop and Crafts Exhibition and Sale Hall. Contrast stands out in red, blue, green and purple, among others, to help highlight the architecture of valuable buildings in the area, in addition to gardens, galleries and banks.
The new work gives it greater clarity to avileña capital of 444.64 square kilometers, the largest and most important population center of the province, with 137 646 inhabitants. A few meters away stands the Park "José Martí", completed in 1995 and occupies the same place where, in 1800, was the Plaza Alfonso III. Near the park there are several buildings dating from the first half of the twentieth century, and along the main street up other old buildings, especially the Catholic Church (1952), very modern and eclectic architecture. At its entrance stands the statue of San Eugenio de la Palma, patron saint of the city (revered for over 300 years and is part of their historical memory and religious). We should also mention that near the boulevard can be seen many buildings of heritage value, which include the Museum of History, the restaurant La Estrella, the Cabildo, the Hotel Sevilla, City Hall and the Main Theatre, the latter considered one of the most important theaters of Cuba. Many of the buildings, built in previous centuries, undergoing conservation and restoration actions.

The Avilanians compete in Architectural Design, Urban Design and Landscape Design houses, built heritage and Intervention Theory and Criticism of Architecture and Urbanism, looking for a place to participate, among other events at the famous Biennale of Quito, Ecuador .
