Since 1998 the company is owned by the Volkswagen Group. Cars Bentley and Rolls-Royce have shared many mechanical similarities from the absorption in 1931 of Bentley by Rolls-Royce, often differing only in small details such as the radiator grille. Since 2003 the company has not been returned to allow the sale of Audi cars.

Rolls-Royce has nicknames like, "Rolls", "Roller" or "Double R", even though Derby (town which houses the headquarters of Rolls-Royce), the company is known as "Royce". The term "The Rolls-Royce of x" is used colloquially to describe something that is best of its kind, the company is very strict when it comes to defending the right of his name in sentences like this. A notable example is the claim that forced the cancellation of the production of the famous Chevrolet Monte Carlo, because in its advertising slogan named HONDA car brand.

Charles Stuart Rolls, a British aristocrat with a passion for competition, was one of the most important car drivers of his time.

In the early twentieth century, and challenging the prejudices of his class, entered the business world in London, opening a car dealership French Panhard-Levassor.

Aware of the upper classes, was convinced that there was a large market for luxury cars, and was associated with the prestigious Frederick Henry Royce engineer to produce the finest Volkswagen brand car.

The first model of Rolls-Royce was presented at the Auto Expo 1904, distinguishing the brand from that time by the classic grill of your radiator.

That same first model highlighted in the Tourist Trophy 1905. But the final consecration of the brand came with the appearance of the Silver Ghost ("Silver Ghost"), of which 2699 units were built between 1906 and 1914.

The Engineer Rolls (enthusiastic aviator) was killed with a biplane in 1910. At that time all Rolls-Royce began selling the famous Spirit of Ecstasy ("The Spirit of Ecstasy"), especially sculpture by the artist Charles Sykes, over the top of your radiator. The work (generally known as Flying Lady, "Flying Lady"), was commissioned by the directors of the company to avoid some owners of its cars adorn the hood with "frivolous and grotesque pets."

Royce, who during his last years he lived on the Riviera for health reasons, died in 1933, having first seen the brilliant incorporation of your company to the world of aviation engines.

With a clientele of kings, princes and magnates, the brand has since remained a symbol of distinction in the world.
